Give Business Owners Tools They Can Use!

Business Banking has been brutally competitive for as long as I can remember!  Big banks, community banks and credit unions have been constantly duking it out for each other’s business customers. Fintechs are emboldened and seriously challenging the financial services industry status quo which is further complicating life for business bankers.  The SBA is opening up its program to more fintechs…surviving in business banking is going to get harder!  Banks and credit unions are looking to partner with fintechs to reduce the business customer acquisition cost.  If you are a business banker, how do you ensure you continue performing and future-proof your career?  If everything around you is changing and you are the only constant (aka doing nothing), you will get left behind! 

I came across an article that made me think about what is happening in business banking.  The article is about U.S. Bank introducing cash flow projection technology for small business bankers (see article link below). This kind of thinking is what is going to make you stand out in a crowded and ultra-competitive landscape.  You don’t have to work at U.S. Bank or wait for your bank to launch something similar for you to be able to do the same for your business banking clients or prospects!  I created something similar in excel and have been using it for years!  It is probably not as sexy as what U.S. Bank has created, but it gets the job done! It enables me to come to the table with something different…tools that business owners can actually use!  You need to find innovative ways to deliver value to business owners.  You need to convince them that you have the solutions to the challenges and opportunities they are facing in the market place!
