Nov 15, 2022I had a successful career in commercial lending because I was always looking for ways to improve my commercial lending game and for smarter and faster ways to get in front of prospects! If you want to keep your pipeline filled and consistently hit your production goals, you need to bury the old business development plan and put together a digital marketing game plan! One of the most important things you need to do is to keep your finger on the pulse of the industry so that you can orient your skill set to where business banking is heading!

Here is my “business banking” take on the article. Businesses want a one-stop digital financial services experience. Technology has leveled the playing field which means that business owners have more choices when it comes to digital banking. Banks, credit unions and fintechs are rushing to meet the demand…they are trying to figure out how to digitize the entire “retail branch and business banking experience”…including your job! What does this mean for you? It means that if you want to stay relevant (aka employed), you need to learn all you can about digital banking services. Digital banking is no longer just going online to see bank balances. Digital banking now includes topics such as real time payments, embedded banking and bank as a service. You need to master the digital banking services you are currently able to offer your clients and also become familiar with what the competition is offering. It will help remain relevant, help you retain your existing clients, help you win new clients and future-proof your career!
How do you get in front of prospects and win their business? First, you need to clearly understand the challenges and opportunities your prospect is facing in the marketplace (prospect research). Second, you need to be well-versed on your cash/treasury management products, lending products (have your product partners train you) and you digital banking lineup. Third, your sales pitch should be about how you can help your prospect overcome the challenges and take advantage of the opportunities they are experiencing in the marketplace…so that the prospect then gives you the opportunity to sell the product/services that will help them!
